Southern Utah Day 6:




Yesterday started slow, I woke up with extreme back pain, don't know why? Could it be related to hauling Ian up a mountain a couple days earlier? Or the different bed I have been sleeping on? Don't know but I took some drugs and we finally left about 11:00 for Zion Canyon. We got there ate lunch, and I tried to feed Ian, and he either ate everything and didn't get enough or he wasn't getting anything, but he was ticked! It took us about 10 minutes to calm him down then we chose a hike we could do with the stroller this time along a river. We got about 5 minutes in and the complaining, and crying began. "It is too hot!" (it was about 80) Ughh! I tried to feed Ian again while the kids played in the river. He fell asleep so we went back on the hike only to turn around a couple minutes later, it was hot and windy and just not fun. So we thought that we would take the scenic drive through the park at least. Zion to me seems magical because it is a place that my grandparents hiked and loved. They took some photos on top of the famous "Angels Landing" hike, I love to be there and feel their spirits. My kids did not feel this magic! It was completely disapointing....then the day soon changed when while we were on the completely awesome scenic route and we approached the mile long tunnel that was carved out in the mountain. As we started going in, it went completely pitch black, I rolled down my window and yodeled as loud as I could! The kids thought this was great! We all took a turn yelling in the tunnel to hear our echo. Every once and a while there would be a window in the tunnel causing our car to light up, we decided that everythime this happened we had to make a face at each other...HILARIOUS! Ian thought we were crazy! We even saw some big horned sheep. I captured a cute video of Madelyn singing in the car too, I will of course post later. Then we saw people parked and hiking in a cool spot, so we thought we would try it. It was by far the coolest hike we have been on. We were going through caves, leaning on the rock, crossing bridges, we didn't know what it lead to, but we were having a great time. We found out later that the trail was called "Canyon Overlook" and if we would have gone just a little bit farther we could have seen the top of the canyon, oh well we still had fun. Rylan even spotted a lizard! Today (Sunday) we have been hanging out in the camper watching movies, reading and listening to General Conference. Quotes: "thanks mom, you are the best mom ever" after helping her climb up the rocks on our hike.

I'm loving reading about your adventures and I'm just dying to see the pictures (and videos!). Maybe I can see them in person on FRIDAY???

Well, our little girl has finally arrived! Madelyn Kate Hoogland was delivered at 3:04 p.m. today (September 9th) weighing 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 1/2 inches. As you can see she has a FULL head of hair and we think she is the cutest baby ever! Mom is doing fine, we are just hanging out here at the hospital. Rylan is in very good hands at home with Grandma and Grandpa Young and Grammy Jody. Taking a bath, they had to wash her hair twice to get all the gunk out because it is so thick!

Our new nephew!

Yeah my sister Margaret finally had her baby! The poor girl spent hours waiting for her to be dilated enough to push and then started pushing to only realize that the baby was turned and his big burly shoulders could not fit, so they ended up doing a emergency c-section and found out that the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck! He was in the ICU for a couple hours and in the mean time Margie was just waiting in her room for a LONG time to hold her baby. Anna and I went up there to keep her company and we were there when she got to hold her sweet baby boy for the first time (they did let her hold him for a very brief second right after delivery but had to rush him off to the ICU). Jeff (Margaret's husband) is so tender and sweet to Margie it was so sweet to see their love for each other and their new baby. He was 8 lbs 2 oz that is about the size of Madelyn, maybe a bit bigger, and Maddy is almost a month old. Notice her baby acne, i don't know what to do for it, but it ...

I was picture tagged by my wonderful sister-in-law Breezi You go to your 4th Picture file, and Choose the 4th Picture and post and then blog about it. This picture was taken while we lived in Boise with Anna, it was close to Christmas time 2006. Rylan was obsessed with the Jock Jams CD and he loved this particular song that was a medley of songs and there was a part that said, "and look at him go, and look at him go, he could go all the waaaaayyyy." At this particular part he would put his hand up to his forehead like he was looking a far distance away. He learned this choreography from his mother who learned it at her best friend's (thanks Meghan) church camp what like 10 years ago! (What can I say I love dancing) I bet if that song came on between me and Meghan we could do the whole routine for you. I guess I have to pass this on...if you are willing, how about Meghan, Kezia (come on you need more pics on your blog anyway) and Monica, who is a excellent picture taker.
