For fall break we went to Nashville to see what it was all about! It takes 2 hours to get there, we joked that 2 hours is the longest we have ever been in our van since our trips were short living on an island. Madelyn was brave for lunch and tried a jalapeño, I did have to bribe her with $1, but she did it! We think she regretted it.
Our first stop was the Country Music Hall of Fame. They had an exhibit where you could record yourself singing then add instruments to your track.
They had a musical instrument scavenger hunt for the kids. It kept them perfectly occupied while Scott and I enjoyed reading about the artists.
We walked down Broadway at about 3pm where all the honky tonks are. There was a band or musician playing in every one. Plus each bar was filled with people, we may have heard the next greatest country star walking down that street!
That evening we set the kids up with a movie at our hotel and Scott and I went to the Grand Ole Opry. We heard Jeannie Seely, Restless Heart, Charles Esten, Trace Adkins, Scotty McCreery, Ashley McBryde and Eric Church. We heard some great performances but most of the performers were heartbroken about what happened in Vegas with the shooting, and some of them changed their set of songs to more songs about comfort and finding peace amid tragedy. Eric Church was playing in Las Vegas on the same stage two days before the shooting happened. He was tearful saying that those fans that were shot at were "my people" he actually wrote a song about the tragic event and played it for us off of a piece of paper. It was a special night to be a part of.
The next day we took the kids back to the Opry to show them the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. It was amazing, like a village inside a hotel with shops and multiple terrariums, waterfalls, and tropical plants.
On the way home we stopped at the Corvette Museum
Even though it was a quick couple days, we enjoyed seeing southern Kentucky and parts of Tennessee, and we would love to go back.
