Change of Command Ceremony & Scott's Promotion

In May, Scott's unit said goodbye to COL Young and welcome to COL Nutter.  Scott's commander asked that he be in charge of the ceremony.  Scott was busy getting ready for months,  planning a menu, ordering food, hiring a hula dancer, creating a program script, inviting the commanding General, making a seating chart,  and making sure it all went smoothly.  He invited me to the ceremony if I promised to help SGT Campbell with the luncheon.  It was so great watching him at work,  ordering people around!  Scott is so organized and amazing at his job, I know exactly why COL Young wanted him to be in charge, because she knew he would not disappoint!

He has the nickname "Hercules" at work because COL Young in her evaluation of Scott  said "he puts forth a Herculean effort in all he does"

On Scott's birthday July 29th, Scott was officially promoted to Major!  He has worked so hard to earn this new rank.  We had his ceremony on Fort Shafter, his best buddy Brian officiated.
I love this picture of Oma!

Talking through the program

Rylan passed out the programs, and Ian had the very special job of holding the flag.  It was a windy day and the pedestal wasn't quite heavy enough to hold the flag while the wind blew.  I love this picture of Scott telling him the importance of his job. He only almost dropped it once!

The ceremony began with Brian introducing himself and telling some stories about serving with Scott.

Our family was able to take part in pinning on Scott's new rank.  Rylan and I replaced his shoulder bars, and Ian removed his old beret, and Madelyn put on his new beret with the rank as Major.

Scott then gave us each a lei and a hug. Bonnie and Rudi flew in for the occasion

Next, he was re-administered the oath of office

He shared a few words, then received leis from his co-workers and friends

Then we had subway sandwiches for lunch with all who came, it was a short, simple, and to the point, just how Scott likes it!
We are so proud of our soldier!
