Pearl Harbor & the USS Missouri

Towards the end of November Scott took some days off near Thanksgiving and we took the opportunity to go visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Missouri Battleship.

Our little buddy Ian came with us, he is at such a fun curious age and was in heaven to have both mom AND dad all to himself.   We took the ferry over to the USS Arizona Memorial

Its such a sacred and hallowed place. You can see the USS Arizona underneath, there is still oil leaking out from it 74 years later.

Ian was surprisingly quiet and reverant  during our visit. I got a little teary eyed reading all of those names on the memorial.

Next we went over to the USS Missouri Battleship or the "Mighty Mo"

We got to climb inside and see what it is like in a battleship. I didn't realize how much history has happened on this ship.  A plaque has been placed on the exact spot where World War 2 ended. There was a formal surrender from Japan to the Allied Forces.

It is unreal to think that Scott will be promoted to Major on this very ship this year!  We are honored that his special ceremony can be on such a beautiful ship with so much of our country's history on it.
