My Review on Wicked




This last weekend we went to the broadway show Wicked in Boise. We bought tickets for this event one year ago! Before we knew we were pregnant even! It was a family event, my mom & dad, two brothers and their families and my sister who lives in Boise and got us all the tickets, plus my cousins the Kikkerts that live in Salt Lake were all there! It was a blast! The show was very fun, I loved the story line, the music was addicting, I find myself humming the tunes, and I have already re watched some of the songs on youtube. I liked it very much, but I wasn't totally blown away like I expected to be, but I think my expectations were set too high honestly. I do that a lot, just ask Scott. Something was missing, and i think it was not seeing the actors facial expressions. We were up in the balcony at $68 that was pricey enough, so next time I need to bring some binoculars OR pay more money.

The day of the show we were just hanging out at Anna's when my brother Jared called and told us about a exhibit they were having at the Morrison Nature Center. They had all of these booths with hands on things the kids could explore all with the intent of learning more about birds. They got to touch and feel stuffed birds, dissect an owl pellet (where Rylan found a mouse skeleton. . . sick) paint bird feathers, make binoculars out of toilet paper tubes, make scientific drawings, become birds themselves in a game, free a live bird out into the wild, and get a bird painted on their face.




Rylan chose to have a golden finch painted on his face, Maddy didn't want a bird she wanted a spider, a purple spider.

Dissecting an owl pellet. Seriously gross, but very fun for a little boy to do. He got to see what an owl eats. Including a mouse, you could see the skull complete with teeth.

Owl pellets are gross? Be glad you don't live here, then. I find them all the time at the bottom of our pine trees. Bekah LOVES ripping them apart to see the bones.

Well, our little girl has finally arrived! Madelyn Kate Hoogland was delivered at 3:04 p.m. today (September 9th) weighing 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 1/2 inches. As you can see she has a FULL head of hair and we think she is the cutest baby ever! Mom is doing fine, we are just hanging out here at the hospital. Rylan is in very good hands at home with Grandma and Grandpa Young and Grammy Jody. Taking a bath, they had to wash her hair twice to get all the gunk out because it is so thick!

Our new nephew!

Yeah my sister Margaret finally had her baby! The poor girl spent hours waiting for her to be dilated enough to push and then started pushing to only realize that the baby was turned and his big burly shoulders could not fit, so they ended up doing a emergency c-section and found out that the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck! He was in the ICU for a couple hours and in the mean time Margie was just waiting in her room for a LONG time to hold her baby. Anna and I went up there to keep her company and we were there when she got to hold her sweet baby boy for the first time (they did let her hold him for a very brief second right after delivery but had to rush him off to the ICU). Jeff (Margaret's husband) is so tender and sweet to Margie it was so sweet to see their love for each other and their new baby. He was 8 lbs 2 oz that is about the size of Madelyn, maybe a bit bigger, and Maddy is almost a month old. Notice her baby acne, i don't know what to do for it, but it ...

I've been picture tagged

I was picture tagged by my wonderful sister-in-law Breezi You go to your 4th Picture file, and Choose the 4th Picture and post and then blog about it. This picture was taken while we lived in Boise with Anna, it was close to Christmas time 2006. Rylan was obsessed with the Jock Jams CD and he loved this particular song that was a medley of songs and there was a part that said, "and look at him go, and look at him go, he could go all the waaaaayyyy." At this particular part he would put his hand up to his forehead like he was looking a far distance away. He learned this choreography from his mother who learned it at her best friend's (thanks Meghan) church camp what like 10 years ago! (What can I say I love dancing) I bet if that song came on between me and Meghan we could do the whole routine for you. I guess I have to pass this on...if you are willing, how about Meghan, Kezia (come on you need more pics on your blog anyway) and Monica, who is a excellent picture taker.
