Winter Visitors

Grammy and Papa flew in for the weekend of Ian's baptism. This was their first time in Kentucky and we had a blast showing them around. We showed them where the kids go to school, where Scott works, and we stopped at Chick-Fil-la for lunch.  We got home in time to watch the kids get off the bus, and give hugs. When Rylan got home, Jody had a special gift for him. When we had a baby shower before he was born Jody had the guests at the shower write down thoughts and well wishes for Rylan to be opened when he was 16, since he is 15 ½  and they were going to be here she gave it to him early. The box that it was in is a wooden box that grandpa John had and got in Germany when he was in the war. He stored his uniform labels in it. We read the cards and it was so fun, a lot of old high school friends and church friends wrote some nice things. Scott and I each wrote something and our favorite was Grandma Adah. She hasn’t been able to write very much with her arthritic hands in years.  Jody also brought some gifts for the kids that she had purchased at Deseret Book in Boise before their flight. She gave Rylan a CD of John Bytheway firesides, and Maddy and Ian chapter books and scripture marking pencils, and Ian a baptism journal/memory book.  



Madelyn and Ian both had basketball games at the same time on the Saturday they were here so Doug came with me to Madelyn’s game and Jody went with Scott to Ian’s game. Rylan was at a percussion camp from 9-2 at the high school.  The team Maddy played was so hard! They were brutal, but her team put up a good fight. It was a lot of slapping and wrestling on the floor for the ball. Why do girls play like that? You don't see older boys just grabbing the ball out of their hands, they let the other team do their plays and dribble the ball. It’s so weird, they had their first lost and were pretty upset about it. We met at home, Ian scored a basket and was pretty happy about his game. We had lunch then got ready for the baptism. It was very special having them there with us. Their youngest grandchild.

Later on in the week Grandma and Grandpa came to visit! We lucked out and school was canceled for a couple days because of snow and cold temperatures. I got them temporary memberships at our gym so they could come workout with me. We enjoyed a lot of reading time, visiting the Abraham Lincoln sights, basketball games for Maddy and Ian, Dairy Queen, playing games, buttermilk flapjacks, Zumba with mom, and many long talks and snuggles. Scott was in Washington DC for training, so it was really nice to have them here to help and keep us company. Dad enjoyed waiting for the kids to get off the bus and walking to the house with them.

Dare Essay winner

 (Early Spring 2022)  Ian was selected to read his essay at his DARE graduation! They called the top three essays for each class and Ian’s was picked to read for Mr Thompson’s class. They had to read their essay on the spot in front of the whole 5th grade and their parents! He was just getting over a sickness so his voice was a bit crackly but he did great! He got a big trophy too! I had a cough drop and bottled water in my purse in case he needed it, but he didn’t. Mr. Thompson pulled me aside and jokingly said that he has highly considering holding Ian back so he could be in his class again, he just thinks he is the coolest kid.  Ian has also loved Academic Team this year! Grandpa & Grandma Young Visit

Grandma & Grandpa Young drove all the way from Idaho to visit us!  It took them 2 1/2 days because they stopped at Mt. Rushmore, but they got here around 1:00 pm and we were all so excited and when Rylan got off the bus, they were there waiting for him! With G & G Young comes the I-pad which is a good way for Grandmas and Grandpas to get to actually hold their grandkids all they want.   Ian learned quite a bit from the I-pad just from their time here.   Ian has learned to say, "cheese" whenever someone points a camera at him  I am sorry to say that we didn't do that much, and when I asked them what they wanted to do they said that just wanted to watch me be a mom and play with the kids. Rylan and the Beginning of Mission Prep

(Early Spring 2022) Rylan was able to have one last percussion season.
