Fall Recap 2016

When a Hoogland boy (or girl) becomes of hunting age they take a hunters education course and get their hunting license to prepare for tromping in the woods with other Hoogland men.  Rylan had his first deer hunt with his dad this fall in Grangeville, ID.  While Scott was gutting their first kill, Rylan took one sniff of the deer guts and he fell to the ground.  After Scott shook him and lightly slapped his face, Rylan woke up and didn't remember a thing.  He watched the rest of the gutting process sitting down after that. 





 He also learned how to drive a 4-wheeler, went to a Boise State game with Scott, Papa, and M'Lynn and had a lot of quality time with is cousin Alli

While the big boys were in Idaho, Margaret called me up and said,  "Hey Jeff is coming to Hawaii for a job and I am coming with him!"  It was a short visit, but it was so fun to catch up and show her some of our favorite things on the island.


Me and the littles went to a local pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins, but they went rotten before Halloween so we had to buy more at the grocery store. But just look at that scenery! We love the mountains near Waimanalo.




The kids had a blast during Halloween! We had a Rey from Star Wars & a Superman

 I taught the kids how to start a conga line at their school party/dance and each class participated in the Halloween parade.




During our ward Fall Festival, Rylan joined them in dressing up as a character from Mario Kart

Also in the fall I was able to go on a field trip with Ian's class to the Lyon Arboretum where we learned all about native Hawaiian plants and what ancient Hawaiian people used them for.  



 And I went with Madelyn's class to the Japanese Cultural Center.  Here we learned about why the Japanese came to Hawaii and some of their customs, symbols and traditional games.



Of course we had some beach days, but on this particular beach day at Baby Makapu'u beach the girls found a baby octopus!


 Our kids have met some cherished friends here, and it just makes my heart happy because a year ago when we torn them apart from their friends in Chicago I didn't know if they would ever forgive us!


We took a trip up to Waimea Falls on the North Shore












 It was a gorgeous day to swim underneath a waterfall!



Boise State University came to visit us in Hawaii!  Ok they did have a game to play against the University of Hawaii, but Scott and I snuck away to cheer them on in a sea of green.
 Madelyn & Ian both played fall soccer for the I9 league.  Ever Saturday we had two games to attend, some of them in the pouring rain!  They had a blast, gained some confidence, and made some friends.

Dare Essay winner

 (Early Spring 2022)  Ian was selected to read his essay at his DARE graduation! They called the top three essays for each class and Ian’s was picked to read for Mr Thompson’s class. They had to read their essay on the spot in front of the whole 5th grade and their parents! He was just getting over a sickness so his voice was a bit crackly but he did great! He got a big trophy too! I had a cough drop and bottled water in my purse in case he needed it, but he didn’t. Mr. Thompson pulled me aside and jokingly said that he has highly considering holding Ian back so he could be in his class again, he just thinks he is the coolest kid.  Ian has also loved Academic Team this year! Grandpa & Grandma Young Visit

Grandma & Grandpa Young drove all the way from Idaho to visit us!  It took them 2 1/2 days because they stopped at Mt. Rushmore, but they got here around 1:00 pm and we were all so excited and when Rylan got off the bus, they were there waiting for him! With G & G Young comes the I-pad which is a good way for Grandmas and Grandpas to get to actually hold their grandkids all they want.   Ian learned quite a bit from the I-pad just from their time here.   Ian has learned to say, "cheese" whenever someone points a camera at him  I am sorry to say that we didn't do that much, and when I asked them what they wanted to do they said that just wanted to watch me be a mom and play with the kids. They even babysat while Scott and I went to a dance, and when Scott was out of town I went to play with friends one Friday.  I felt guilty leaving but they insisted on letting me have a night out away from kids.  We did hav...

Rylan and the Beginning of Mission Prep

(Early Spring 2022) Rylan was able to have one last percussion season.
