Madelyn's 7th Birthday

For Madelyn's birthday she chose to have an experience rather than presents.  She wanted to go to Sea Life Park and have a "dolphin encounter." We actually got to play with a wholphin (the hybrid of a bottle nose dolphin & a false killer whale) and a dolphin.  Kekaimalu and Kaleo were so sweet, and we had such a fun time with them.

Here we are walking to the water

 Here they come . . .

Our trainer was Angie, and she was so sweet and very affectionate and loving to Kekaimalu

We got to pet her and feed her a fish

 and give her kisses

She loved to splash us and play

We got to dance with her

When it was my turn I had to ask the couple next to us to hold on to Madelyn so she wouldn't float away, she couldn't quite touch and we had to hold still on the platform so the trainer could walk in front of us.  They spoke Japanese, but I could tell how smitten they were by her curly hair and freckles.
While waiting our turn with the wolphin, Kaleo the dolphin came to visit us. Kaleo is a movie star, she's made a cameo in many films including "50 First Dates."

Kekaimalu was playing Jaws with us and we were pretending to act scared.

Her last trick was doing the hula with us

Madelyn asked for a mint ice cream cake, and since the nearest Dariy Queen is about 40 minutes away and we don't live near Oberwiess (our favorite ice cream store in Chicago) anymore I had to figure out how to make one.   We love our sassy, intelligent, chatterbox, creative, kindhearted, beautiful 7 year old.

 My little red-faced hiking buddy

Madelyn loves all animals, amphibians,  and insects. (except for maybe roaches and bees)  She often has a snail, slug or gecko captured for observation under our lanai, but she always feeds them and then lets them go. She is a lover of nature, painting, building with legos, and making random crafts out of whatever she finds from my craft area garbage!  She loves to dance and has been taking hula class after school once a week. She is learning a beautiful Hawaiian song and dance and she sometimes lets me see a sneak peak of it.

Madelyn is a good girl and a big help around the house. When she does get in trouble it is usually because she has overstepped boundary issues. She likes to be in your face when she talks, and know everyone's business at all times.  Scott and I have to be careful with how we speak around her because she picks up on cues and code words and she figures them out.  She loves to get real close to her brothers whether they like her to or not.  She hates to be alone, so not sharing a room with Ian anymore has been a challenge for her. Rylan has recently taught her how to play Minecraft on the computer and she loves to build her own worlds. She is developing her love for reading, but if she had a choice she would like for me to read to her. We just finished Charlotte's Web and she loved it, and has a new appreciation for spiders!  She is a very loving girl and has made a lot of friends at her new school.  She has even had a boy tell her he loves her.  She kindly wrote him a card and asked that they just be friends.

When we go to the beach Madelyn loves to bodyboard with her dad, catch crabs and she has become a master sand castle builder.  She wants to either be a veterinarian when she grows up or an author. I love this sweet girl of mine.
